401 'Nailhead' engine

"Why do they call it a nailhead engine?", I hear you say. OK, I'll tell you...

If you look at the valve housings by the side of the red air-intake, you'll see they are flat, therefore the valves come straight up out of the engine rather than out of the side at an angle, and with their flat tops would look like nails.
