Biplane Flights in the Florida Keys
Last year Steve, myself and a Florida Buddy of ours Debbie decided to be brave and view the Keys from the air in a small plane! We called a few places and decided the best deal was with "Fantasy Dan". We did wonder why he was called this at the time. Dan was a great bloke, very friendly, welcoming and reassuring, which was good because he was the pilot! The twenty-five minute flight from Sugarloaf Key over the beautiful reefs and down to Key West and back cost about £120 (about $45 a head including tip) but in the event we certainly were up in the air for a good 45 minutes, and are pretty sure Dan took us on the longer flight. He is a generous guy!
Though the four-man plane looked very small on the ground, once we were up in the sky and chugging along we didn't regret taking the flight for a minute. The views were fantastic!

As we flew over the Reefs to Key West, we looked down and saw string-rays and fish in the water and even the odd shark. Key West looked amazing from the skies!

On the way back Dan turned to me and said "right you're flying the plane now!". I was sat upfront and there were dual controls so I took the wheel. Steve says I turned around to the back to tell him "I'm flying", the plane veered up and Dan calmly said "you're climbing!" but I don't remember that!!! I think I did pretty well, even bringing the plane in to land on the runway, with a little help from Dan at the last minute! SO NOW WE KNOW WHY HE HAS THE NICKNAME FANTASY DAN!!! Boy was that FUN, FUN, FUN! Next year Steve will do the flying and I ain't going up with him!!! <smiles>
And the fun was not over once we'd landed. I then spotted Dan's motorbike and next minute I was offered a ride and zooming down the runway on it. I was so happy to be able to get on a motorbike again for it had been too long! There was a point in my life when getting on a bike would have been near impossible due to MS and severe spasticity, so to get on pretty easily and enjoy the ride felt like a real special triumph, the old Sylvie's coming back! Dan asked me "How fast do you want to go" and I replied 'As fast as you can go"!!! That was serious fun! :0) :0) :0)
